In 1963, the Howell family began planting Christmas trees to raise money to send their 7 children to college. All the kids helped plant, trim and weed the trees, then to cut and sell them seven years later. Now, almost 40 years later, a third generation of Howells will grow up learning the tree-growing trade.

From the first acre of Christmas trees sold in 1970, the Howell Tree Farm has grown to 50 acres of evergreens. Beautiful Scotch Pine, White Pine, and Fir line up in neat rows awaiting the Christmas season. Tree hunters will find it easy to select that perfect tree. Howell Tree Farm is committed to growing top quality Christmas trees you'd be proud to display in your home.

Howell Tree Farm, located just 20 minutes from Des Moines, invites you to come pick out a fresh tree for your Christmas celebration. Beginning the Saturday before Thanksgiving, you can visit the farm and pre-tag your own special tree. Take it with you that day or call ahead when you're ready to decorate and we'll have it ready for you when you come. Either way, we cut your tree, shake it, wrap it, and load it into your vehicle --- you don't have to do a thing! Purchase one of our stands and we'll mount it for a small fee. It's our "Marriage-saver Special."
